The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under Grant agreement No 726799.

Microphyt is recognized as one of the most innovative companies in Europe

The CEO, Vincent Usache, explains why:

Launch of the first studies to assess the concept and feasibility of the project, with initial support from the European Commission (Phase 1 of the Horizon 2020 ``SME Instrument``). The results prove to be very promising, showing the beneficial effects on health of the natural bioactive compounds targeted by the SMILE program - unique combinations of xanthophyll and long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (Omega-3) - both on weight loss and on brain health, two major public health issues of our time.
The program is selected again by the European Commission, this time to benefit from the Phase 2 of the Horizon 2020 'SME Instrument'. It results in a grant amounting up to 70% (€ 1.8 million) of the program total budget of € 2.5 million.
Confirming the initial data via the implementation and follow-up of in vitro, pre-clinical and clinical studies; operational and regulatory preparation for bringing the products to market (development of nutraceutical formulas and detailed specifications alongside ensuring compliance with European and the United States regulations).

The Horizon 2020 SME Instrument is a public financing program which through an open competition across Europe funds creative and innovative small businesses that have significant growth potential and global ambitions.
Thus far, out of 30,000 applicants to the program, 2,500 companies have been selected for funding. This indicates both the intensity of competition and the quality of the successful proposals.
